About Dr. Jan
Jan Vinita White is the only credentialed aging expert in
North Alabama and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, providing a broad range of
consulting services related to aging.
Dr. White earned her doctoral degree in Human
Services/Gerontology and Life Sciences.
To supplement her knowledge, Dr. White has attended workshops and
courses at the Harvard School of Aging Studies in Cambridge, Massachusetts. To
meet the needs of geographically distanced families, Dr. White earned a
Certificate of Completion from ReadyMinds at Emory University in Distance
Counseling. Dr. White earned an
accredited certification as a Certified Senior Advisor. She also earned an
Intergenerational Certification from the University of Pittsburgh.
Teaching and mentoring are Dr. White's passions, and her
specialization is scholarly research and the scientific method developed by
Alhazen over a thousand years ago.
Committed to furthering careers in the helping professions, she is a
professor, dissertation advisor, researcher, subject matter expert, journal reviewer, and
Dr. White has over 30 years of corporate experience with the
last 14 in private practice and teaching. Her professional affiliations include
the National Organization of Human Services, American Society on Aging, and Phi
Kappa Phi. White is a federally-enrolled
Shawnee Native American and a descendant of tribal chief Bluejacket.
Dr. White has been presenting aging topics on LIVE television for 14
years. Her segment live each Tuesday on
local television has grown in popularity and has informed a rural and suburban
audience on how to age successfully.
